A funding package that would end the most extended funding lapse in US history is heading to the House of Representatives for a crucial vote on midweek.

On day 43 of the political impasse, representatives are coming back to Washington to decide whether to pass a Senate package that would support government departments for 60 days.

GOP leaders voiced optimism the budget proposal would clear the lower chamber, notwithstanding their slim advantage. But leading opposition members pledged to fight it.
