Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
