The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
