Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League at home loss of the year.

However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when Vicario gave away possession well outside his area.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

A particular of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough booing following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.

Ex- Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the next score was "completely preventable".

"I do understand the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He's a excellent team player, he is a real figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italy national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old stated following the game that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."

He said being booed "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it's hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the box for ages," he said.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked a bit.

"Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little additional time. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and place it on target. I had a positive feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

While Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to extend their home woes.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

The side still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to come prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.

"During in a poor run, everything appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a one campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a prestigious role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
