Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
